It is the duty of the
patriot to protect his country from the
government.
--Thomas Paine 'The Rights of Man' c.1792
Treason doth never prosper: what's the
reason? Why, if it
prosper, none dare call it treason.

Sir
John Harrington (1561-1612) Epigrams, Book iv, Ep.

To be
governed is to be watched, inspected, spied
upon,
directed, law-ridden, regulated, penned up, indoctrinated,
preached at, checked, appraised, seized, censured, commanded,
by beings who have neither title, nor knowledge, nor virtue.
To be governed is to have every operation, every
transaction, every movement noted, registered, counted, rated,
stamped, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, refused,
authorized, endorsed, admonished, prevented, reformed,
redressed, corrected.

--Pierre-Joesph Proudhon -General Idea of
the Revolution in the Nineteenth Century, translated by John Beverly
Robinson (London; Freedom Press- 1923) pp. 293-94
Our lives begin to end the day we become
silent about things that matter.

- Martin Luther King Jr

"Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat,
populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth — are
never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into
those who want people to be controlled and those who have no
such desire.” — Robert A Heinlein
"Manners are of more importance than laws... Manners
are what vex or soothe, corrupt or purify, exalt or debase,
barbarize or refine us, by a constant, steady, uniform, insensible
operation, like that of the air we breathe
in." —Edmund
Burke.

The first great lesson to learn about taxation is that
taxation is simply robbery. No more and no less. For what is
"robbery"? Robbery is the taking of a man's property by the use of
violence or the threat thereof, and therefore without the victim's
consent. And yet what else is taxation? Murray N. Rothbard
